If Mediaphobics make a loud enough stink, a great national debate rages, but somehow -- another symptom of the Mediaphobia delusion -- the artists and audiences of the media under attack are not invited to participate in the debate. Instead, the public is treated to a heated exchange between paternally-minded politicians and the shame-faced bureaucrats of entertainment conglomerates -- two groups not exactly known for their encouragement of controversial forms of expression. Invariably, the corporations funding the attacked media are embarrassed into giving in to the criticism -- they concoct some self-censorship organ or rating system to placate the vocal horde of Mediaphobics.
